Frequently Asked Questions

Orthopedic Injury Clinic FAQs

Quick answers to the questions we hear most often about our walk-in Orthopedic Injury Clinic at the Sheffield Village and Amherst locations.

Who will I see at the Orthopedic Injury Clinic?

Some places have you see a physician assistant, nurse practitioner, or resident. At our Injury Clinic, you will be evaluated by a doctor who specializes in treating orthopedic conditions.

How do I know when to go to the Injury Clinic versus scheduling a regular appointment?

If you have a sudden injury as the result of an accident, sports, or other intense physical activity, you should visit the Center for Orthopedics’ Injury Clinic. These injuries include โ€” but are not limited to โ€” sprains and strains, closed fractures, minor dislocations, swollen or painful joints, and any sudden or severe pain.

If you have an ongoing condition, a minor injury with minimal pain, or need to schedule a follow-up visit, you should schedule a regular appointment. If you have any questions about whether to visit the Injury Clinic, call us at 440-496-6994 to speak with one of our representatives.

Will there be a wait?

We wish we could guarantee little or no wait time. Our Injury Clinic runs in conjunction with our physicians’ regular clinic schedules, and there’s no way to predict how many weekend warriors will need our care on a given day. Each and every one of our patients is important to us โ€” we will give you the appropriate treatment and the time you need.

Do I need to make an appointment?

No appointments are necessary โ€” just walk in during clinic hours. For less of a wait, you can schedule a check-in time online (much like call-ahead seating). This should decrease your wait time.

Will my insurance company cover my visit?

We highly recommend calling your insurance provider to determine whether you need a referral to see an orthopedic specialist.

Why should I come to the Injury Clinic instead of an Urgent Care or Emergency Room?

Stay healthy. Avoid the chaos, coughing, sneezing, and unnecessary exposure to contagious illness at a busy ER or urgent care center.

Save time. A typical visit to the Injury Clinic is much quicker than a trip to the ER or urgent care. If casting, splinting, or imaging is required, we take care of it during your visit.

See a specialist. You’ll be seen by an orthopedic specialist at a state-of-the-art orthopedic facility. If follow-up care is needed, it’s scheduled before you leave the clinic. No need to call around the next day.

Save money. The co-payment at the Injury Clinic is the same as a specialty physician office visit โ€” a less expensive option than a trip to the emergency room.
